Okay, packing for a big trip can be overwhelming… I totally get it! For our last big trip, I sat on my bedroom floor and packed/repacked my bag over and over again while on the verge of having a melt-down! It’s so hard to decide what we ACTUALLY NEED everyday vs what we WANT.
WANTS VS NEEDS… this is a constant issue in many of our lives.
Think about what is absolutely essential. Don’t bring items that you likely won’t use/wear or items that you could readily purchase cheaply if needed (i.e. advil, bandaids, an extra book, back-up headphones).
But packing LIGHT is so important, especially from the perspective of saving money… $70 extra to check a bag?! No thank you!
Packing light can be hard, but if I were to sum up my advice in one word it would be “Multi-purpose!” Well maybe that’s technically two words? I’m not sure, but it’s important!
What do I mean by this? I mean items that you can use in different ways or different times on your trip.
Here’s some examples…
- Hand soap that doubles as body wash (or better yet my favorite Dr. Bonner’s Soap that also can be laundry detergent, cleaner, dish soap, etc)
- A skirt that can also be worn as a dress
- A scarf that can be tied different ways for different occasions
- Shoes that change functions (i.e. switch toppers or convert from heels to flats)
- A fanny pack that also doubles as a cute crossbody
- Reversible swimsuit
- Really anything reversible…
These are just some of my favorite examples, but there are so many more!

- BAGS: dependable travel backpack! and fanny pack! I used both of these for a 2 week Europe backpacking trip and they were perfect! It has a separate wet bag and a separate shoe compartment, and a power pack (the list goes on)! I love this backpack!
- ELECTRONICS: You NEED to have a portable power bank, reliable headphones, and a good travel adapter!

- SHOES: I LOVE Solely Jane’s shoes. They are soo versatile! One shoe with different toppers? This is amazing for travel! They are a comfortable simple small heel base too! I can’t recommend these enough! I pack these for almost every trip I go on!

I also LOVE TropicFeel’s shoes. They are perfect for tropical adventures because they are waterproof! A lot of their shoes are made for going swimming and then hiking all in the same day! Amazing!

- MISCELLANEOUS: Dr. Bonner’s soap is AMAZING! You can wash your body, face, dishes, surface, laundry and more! Some claim they can wash their hair with it, but I don’t love it for my hair. But I love it for everything else. Soo convenient! Packing Cubes are also an awesome idea to save space!
